I will correct papers with green ink.
Then, as I teach, I will sprinkle in the following phrase: “Green for growth!”
Green is the color of seedlings pushing up from the rocky soil. The seedlings have to shove past the hard shell of their seed, and then up through the hard ground. They have to do this without seeing any light, any hope, until finally they break through.
Sounds a bit like improvement, doesn’t it? Having to push past hard obstacles, even when hope cannot be seen, until one finally breaks through to the sky.
I will grade papers with green ink, because it is through corrections that they will grow.
(An alternative explanation: Green is the color of money. To make lots of money, you have to work hard and fix mistakes. 😉 )
